over the head fanfiction

  The day was wonderful, the sky was full of bird Pokémon and the air was clear, a perfect day to go looking for mega stones. As Acronza was mining in a nearby cave he came to notice another miner towards the entrance were he had seen some jewels in the walls, along with him was a weak looking sableye also looking along the walls of the cave for its food, gems and jewels. Seeing that the sableye was going to get his prized possession for its next meal, the wealthy looking man shoved the undersized Sableye away from the wall and began to rip the glittering treasures from the rock.

  Surprised by the cruelty towards Pokémon acronza called out to the man saying "hey, what do you think you’re doing?"

  The man turned to look at acronza and said "their mine! And no lod sableye is going to make me poor!"

  A soft jingling came from in the man’s pouch, the violet furred Pokémon grabbed a handful of the smallest more common green gems and lifted them to its mouth.

  "Hey you greedy dirt, them are mine!" the man said grabbing the sableye by the neck and choking it.

  After seeing all this acronza decided it was time to butt in and settle the situation. "Go lucario!" called acronza sending an ultraball into the air.

  The man looked over in surprise as the Fighting/Steel type materialized in front of him. "Who do you think you are kid??"

  "A kid who knows when a man has gone too far in Pokémon treatment, lets mega this battle shall we lucario!" said acronza as he lifted his arm to revel a mega-stone bracelet and touched it to mega-evolve lucario. 

  The man gasped slightly and stepped back, dropping the Pokemon to the ground.

  Seeing that the man was more bark than bite he stepped back and looked at the man in the eye.    

  “Now if you don’t have a Pokémon that can stand up to my lucario, leave now, I don’t ever want to see you mistreating a Pokémon again."

The man glared but stepped back and ran off, leaving the injured Sableye where it was.

Seeing that the man had left, acronza returned lucario to his ball and brought out a potion to heal the weak sableye.

  Upon approaching the sableye it got up and hid behind a rock.

  "It’s ok little guy, I won’t hurt you, just let me heal you and then you can be on your way." When the Sableye looked back up it didn’t have the face of a sableye, instead, the face of a small girl, four maybe five years old, she looked scared, and there was a hand shaped bruise on her neck, as well as many others on her face and arms.

  "I-I be whatever you want... D-Don't hurt girl..." she begged

  Acronza backed slowly away slightly in surprise then recovered and approached the strange Pokémon/girl. “Who are you, or better yet, WHAT are you?" he asked.

  She ducked behind the rock, shaking in fear "I be wh-what you say..."

  "No I don’t want you to be anything, I’m asking who you are?"
  She lightly tapped her own chest "R-Ruby, masters says 'girl'..." her stomach growled loudly and she nearly doubled over.

  "Mmm" acronza looked around and found a spot in the tunnel wall where some jewels poked out of, taking his hands he dug out the jewels and handed them to Ruby. "Here you go, this should help you."

  She looked at him, nervously stepped out from behind the rock, her body changed, her face got wide and diamonds formed in place of her eyes, she hesitantly accepted the gems and crunched them hungrily.
  After a moment she changed back "thank you"

  Grateful that she was accepting him acronza smiled at ruby.

  "So where do you come from, I’ve never seen a sableye that can change into a human?"

  Ruby giggled "like you. I can change." she smiled then her body changed again, tall ears, a long snout, upright animal like legs and spikes on her forearms, a Lucario, Surprised acronza looked at the copy of his lucario, not a detail was missed.

  "I’m amazed, are you a ditto that has learned to speak?"

  She changed back and shook her head. "Ruby, human."

  "Hu, never in my life have I known a human that can change into Pokémon." Acronza looked at her closely and studied the strand girl in front of him. "Do you have a home?"

  "With Master" she stated simply, "but... master left..."

  "Well you don’t have to deal with him anymore, did he ever catch you in a pokeball?" 

  Again she shook her head "bought Ruby"

  "Mm so you were a pirated Pokémon, or should I say kidnapped mm, let me guess, team rocket?"

She flinched, turns into a Buneary and hid in her cottony fur, shaking again at the mention of Team Rocket.

  Seeing that what he said was true acronza knelt down and tried to comfort ruby the best he could.

  "It’s ok, tell you what, you can come with me to my place and stay with me for as long as you like." said acronza trying to cheer ruby up.

  The little fluffy rabbit Pokémon looked up and morphed back into a little girl "y-your place...?"

  "Yah, my home, it’s not too far from here, and you'll be well protected trust me."

  She looked in his eyes, her own little red ruby colored eyes sparkled happily "stay with you!"

  Acronza extended his hand towards ruby, "well let’s go."

  She turned into a Poocheyena and jumped into his arms, wagging her little tail happily

  "Well I’m glad you’re happy."

 

  Acronza's house was an interesting house, the main building was built into the side of a large tree that had grown next to the cliff side of a mountain, the building extended into the mountain and up into the canopy of the tree, off to the side of the tree a Pokémon battle field had been built.

  Ruby had fallen asleep on the way there, her body returning to her human form as she slept, it was suddenly apparent that she wasn't normally a big eater, because she weighed next to nothing.

  "Seems we need to get you back into a healthy shape"

  Acronza gently placed ruby on a soft couch and headed into his kitchen to make dinner.

  Ruby stirred only slightly as she was set down, curling up against a pillow and hugging it tightly.

  In the kitchen acronza baked some waffles for ruby and himself, now and then he checked on the sleeping girl to see her stir now and then in her sleep.

  After a few minutes acronza set the waffles on the table and went over to ruby to gently nudge her awake.

  "Mmm?" she sat up, turned into a Skitty and stretched, "You need?"

  "Would you like some dinner, I see that you look a little thin for a girl your age." acronza offered Ruby nodded sleepily, yawning wide

  After guiding the sleepy ruby to the table acronza gave her a waffle and sat himself down to eat.

  The meal was uneventful as ruby was still half asleep, after dinner acronza gently lifted ruby up and took her into a spare room for her to sleep.

  "Good night ruby" acronza said leaving the room.

  As acronza was heading off to bed a loud knock came from downstairs. "Mm, just another day’s work."

  Opening the door acronza found a young Pokémon trainer at his door step, "Don’t you know its past your bed time." said acronza.

  "Not if I plan on challenging you!" exclaimed the trainer.

  "Mmm, how about you come back tomorrow, ok?"

  "No, now!"

  Seeing that the trainer was not going to cooperate, acronza closed the door and headed off to bed, leaving the noisy trainer to yell at the door. 

  After a while the stubborn trainer left, planning to return in the morning.

 

  The next morning that is exactly what the trainer did, he banged on the door until acronza came out.

  "Really?" he said half angry, half asleep.

  "Now" the trainer said walking away.

  Seeing that he wasn’t going to get rest until the battle was over acronza collected his pokeballs and headed to the battle field.

  About that time Ruby woke up. At first she didn't remember where she was, and began to cry very loudly, she could just faintly be heard from outside.

  Hearing that ruby was awake and not happy acronza turned to the trainer a little stressed.

  "Now we can make this quick or you can let me take care of some little business, what’s your choice?"

  The trainer thought for a second, "go take care of the kid," he said, "I’ve got time"

  Seeing that the trainer was willing to wait a little longer acronza ran back into the house to check on ruby.

  "Hey ruby, everything alright?"

  Ruby jumped, after a few moments she slowly recalled all that had taken place, she hopped from the bed, and leaped into his arms

  "It’s ok, I’ve got a battle going on right now, would you like to come and watch me?"

  "a- a battle?" she slowly nodded and held onto his shirt "I want see it"

  "Ok" Acronza lifted ruby up and took her outside, placing her by the tree to watch. “Now stay here and don’t come too close, these battles can get fierce, ok?"

  She nodded quietly and turned her gaze to the field.
  "Dude, is that your kid?" the trainer questioned rudely

  trying to not give away that ruby was not his and that he had taken the position to take care of her acronza responded "no, she is the daughter of a friend of mine, she asked me to take care of her for the time being so I agreed, now on with the battles, we fight till no trainer has Pokémon left to fight, you may change out your Pokémon if you so wish to, may the best trainer win." acronza indicated to the trainer that he may make the first move.

  The trainer grinned and grabbed a net ball off his belt "Go Volbeat!"

  seeing the bug Pokémon materialize in front of him acronza decided that now was not the time to bring out his psychic or dark type Pokémon out yet, he also figured that the trainer could have taught volbeat some grass type moves so Blastoise was out of the game for now, so lucario was his first Pokémon.

  "Let’s give this kid what he wants lucario!" said acronza sending the ultra-ball onto the field, materializing lucario who was ready for action.

  "Volbeat! Double Team!" Instantly, fifty of the electric bug types appeared all around, flying,
standing, zooming pat Lucario's head.

  Seeing all the volbeat on the field acronza figured that he needed a way to single them all out at once, but he had to think quickly before his opponent attacked again.

  "Lucario, rock slide!"

  Responding to acronza lucario sent a wave of rock towards all of the volbeat, knocking out all of the copies until the original was found.

  Finally the original was found and lucario's attack had made a hit, but the fight was still on as volbeat got back up and awaited its trainer’s next order.

  "Bug Buzz!!" a shrill buzzing, like a hundred Combee hives roaring to life, filled the air. Lucario stumbled at the attack but quickly recovered as bug attacks are not very affective against fighting types and steel types.

  "Mm, you’re going to have to do better than that, lucario stone edge!"

  lucario focused on the field beneath the volbeat and caused stone spears to jut out of the ground hitting the volbeat from below and sending it into the air, when volbeat came back it was weakening, but still had some fight in it left.

  The trainer paused a moment, considering his options "Zen Head-butt!"
  The psychic move landed, hitting Lucario in the stomach, a direct hit.

  Lucario flew backwards some then got up brushing the attack off with some energy left to finish the battle.

  "Nice attack strategy, but I think it’s time to step it up a notch, lucario, show your inner strength and use flash cannon!"

  Lucario mega-evolved and then sent a beam of steel light at the volbeat knocking it out. One down five more to go thought acronza. He briefly looked at ruby to see how she was doing while the trainer swapped Pokémon.

  Ruby was now a Volbeat, flitting under the tree, seeming to attempt Double Team.
  "Alright... go! Grovyle!"

  Smiling at ruby’s attempts he switched his attention to the battle, grovile was a grass type but that did not mean that the trainer was smart and had used a TM to teach it a fighting type move, thankfully mega lucario was faster so he was able to attack first.

  "Lucario, aura sphere!"

  Lucario collected all of is aura in him and shot out a ball of aura hitting grovyle.

  Grovyle groaned in surprise and glared at its trainer. "Okay... use Leaf Storm!"

  Lucario held his ground, nut in the end he stumbled and fainted.

  "Come back lucario" said acronza "you did good."

  Looking at the trainer and his Pokémon acronza called out "let’s go latios!"

  The trainer stared in total awe, mouth agape. "L-L-L-Latios?!?"

  "For a trainer like yourself, you can handle this one right?" acronza teased. Latios called out in response.

  The trainer thought for a moment, "Grovyle! Use Pursuit!"

  Latios saw the attack coming and flew high into the air dogging the attack.

  "Mm, that attack is only good if the Pokémon is being switched out, but sadly latios just came out and is ready to use ice beam!"

  High in the air latios sent a beam of ice down on grovyle, causing him to shiver momentarily.

  The trainer looked stunned, a dragon psychic type was hard enough, but it could use an ice type move as well?!
  "Grovyle! Quick Attack!"

  Grovyle leapt high into the air landing a quick attack on latios, smacking him down on the ground, but latios got up just before grovyle could land another attack.

  "Latios, use ice beam again!"

  "Dodge it! And the use Leaf Blade!" the green Pokémon obeyed and barely leaped away from the attack in time

  As he leapt away grovyle moved close to latios and attacked him with the blades of leaf on his arms.

  "Latios, fly out of their and use Draco meteor!" called acronza, the attack would weaken latios but it would give him time.

  Latios folded his arms up and zoomed away, it had taken heavy damage but it could keep going

Grovyle was weak, but so was latios as his attack and defense had been lower by the outcome of Draco meteor.

  The next move could end in either trainer Pokémon to be knocked out, thought acronza "luster purge latios!"

  "Grovyle, solar beam!" shouted the trainer at the same time.

  Both attacks powered up and fired as latios was diving at grovyle, sending smoke high into the sky.

  It took some time before the smoke cleared up, on the field both Pokémon where down, both trainers  held their breaths to see who had won the round, after some time, latios struggled into the air claiming victory.

  "Go going latios!" 

  "Good job Grovyle, you get some rest." the trainer thought hard, ice type move. Dragon-psychic Pokémon... "Go! Alakazam!"

  Acronza checked again on ruby as the trainer swapped Pokémon.

  "Latios." she mumbled and transformed, but, as Latios is a male only Pokémon, she made herself into a Latias instead. She seemed surprised by this and hit the ground in wonder.

  Mm he thought to himself then switched back to the task at hand.

  "Latios, give it all till you can fight no more, shadow ball!"

  "Dodge and use Hidden Power!!" the dodge was precise, and the move calculated. It hit Latios directly, knocking it out quickly.

  "Return latios, well done, absol, let’s go!" called acronza as he sent a dusk ball onto the field.
  The trainer grinned, "Alakazam! Future Sight!"

  "Absol, use shadow claw as he preps an attack!"

  Absol responded instantly and ran up to alakazam while slashing at it. Causing alakazam to fly back some.

  The Alakazam groaned sorely but stood back up.

  "Absol brace for impact!" called acronza as the future sight attack took hold of absol, thankfully it wasn’t a very affective attack and absol was able to brush it off.

  I’m going to have to do better than that though the trainer.

  " Absol, blizzard!" Absol planted his feet in the ground as he summoned a blizzard on the field, hitting alakazam with the unavoidable attack and chilling the trainer to the bones.

  The trainer's focus left the battlefield, he glanced over behind Acronza. "Hey... I think your niece is .. I-is a Magby..."

  "Oh that, no that’s just one of my other Pokémon that I have hanging around, my niece seems to have wandered off by now" said acronza

  "No... I watched that girl turn into a Magby..."
  Ruby, suffering from the widespread effects of the Blizzard attack, sneezed, a hot fire ball zoomed past Acronza's shoulder

  "Nope, clearly it’s a magby, a normal person could never had been able to do that" he’s getting pushy, have to do something about this, "absol, use taunt!" 

  Absol moved at the center of the field taunting alakazam to attack and distracting the trainer in the process.

  "Alakazam! Use Psybeam!!"

  Absol was hit with the attack but again with took little effect on him, in fact absol was able to brush off the attack again and he was immune to psychic attacks.

  "Absol, lets step it up!" called acronza as he touched a different pendant on his finger to mega-evolve absol.

  "What, I thought you could only mega-evolve once per battle?" exclaimed the trainer.

  "The rules don’t say you have to have one mega ring." acronza said with a smirk at the trainers shock.

  "Absol, use night slash!"

  Absol, now fully mega-evolved raised his head and sent a wave of darkness at alakazam, hitting it and knocking it out easily.

  The trainer stared in shock. I only brought a team of three... he thought to himself. "Alright... good job Alakazam, return." he gave Acronza the victor's due, about four hundred Poké, but acronza refused the rewards, "you should use that money to train your Pokémon better, this was a good fight, I enjoyed this, hope you can give me a better battle next time."

  The teenaged boy didn't hear him, he was looking at the now hiding Magby.

  Acronza cleared his through and repeated himself.

  "Is that a wild Magby then?" he asked, certain of what he thinks he's seen

  "No, it’s mine" said acronza getting a little impatient, "if you head down the trail you can find a Pokémon center in the next town."

  "May I see your Magby? Just for a moment" he walked over to the bushes without waiting for an answer

  Acronza watched the trainer uneasily; "I hope I don’t have to do this." said acronza to himself.
  The trainer bent down by the Magby. Ruby, not changing out of the fire type's form, staring, looking nervous.
  "You really out to get this poor thing cleaned, its fur is filthy."

  "it tends to get away from me and play with the local Pokémon, I don’t want to catch it because I have no need of it in  a pokeball, I want to give this one a chance in life outside the pokeball." said acronza still cautious

  "Uh-huh, what'll happen if someone catches it?" he asked, starting to look over the Pokémon girl.

  "Well then that’s what happens, I have no control of peoples actions and their choices" acronza was starting to wonder if the trainer was going to try and catch ruby as a magby.

  The trainer pulled a Quick Ball off his belt and dropped it against Ruby's head. It fell, opened and warped her in. a half-second later it not only opened back up to let her out, it shattered.
  She ran toward Acronza, arms out to him, shifting back to human form and climbing into his arms.

  Seeing that the truth had been reviled acronza shifted his attention to the trainers eyes "look at me when I talk,” Suddenly the trainer could not resist looking at acronza, "You will forget all the events here and you will go and try to become a Pokémon master."

  Shaking his head the trainer looked around seeming to be lost then headed back to the trail to continue his journey.

  Ruby was crying quietly on his shoulder. "t-that was scary!"

  Acronza pondered on the recent events then decided he needed to learn more about ruby, but talking to ruby would not give him what he needed to know.

  "Wait here." said acronza as he went into the house.

  Inside acronza opened a secret compartment and brought out a silver flute with gold bands around it and a master ball symbol engraved near the bottom.

  Ruby sat patiently and waited as she was told.

  "What’s that?" she asked as acronza brought out the mysterious flute.

  "answers." said acronza plainly.

  Putting the mouth piece to his lips acronza started to play a tune that seemed to slow down time, as acronza played on the pitch got higher and higher to the point that no one could hear it.

Suddenly a hole appeared off to the distance and Dialga came through, landing right at acronza's feet.

  Ruby stared, her eyes wide, shaking in fear. "WH-who are you?"

  Dialga roared in response to ruby’s question.

  "Dialga, send me back to the time of ruby’s birth!" called acronza, Dialga roared back at acronza, "I know what I can and can’t do, just do this please."

  Dialga roared as his marks started to glow, suddenly acronza vanished in front of ruby and time stopped in the present.

 

  Back in time acronza found himself in a laboratory, before anyone could see him acronza hid himself behind some crates as a pregnant woman passed by.

  "Ohhh, the Ditto samples are here!" she exclaimed, taking a tube of the strange gelatinous stuff. "I'm so excited!"

  Acronza watched assuming that the woman present was ruby’s mother.

She rubbed her large belly with a sigh, "you'll be so proud of mommy when I finish this test little baby" she said, turning to set the tube down, she tripped suddenly, landing on her knees, the strange gunk covering her front.

  Acronza decided that it was time to blend with this present for now and mysteriously changed his clothing to a lab assistant.

  "Are you ok mam?" asked acronza.

  She grabbed his shirt "h-help..." she gasped sharply as the shock of the fall forced her body into labor "i-i need a doctor"

  Acronza looked at the situation and then looked into the slight future, Seeing that she would die giving labor to ruby acronza made up an excuse.

  "There’s no time." said acronza.

  Suddenly all the materials needed for delivery appeared out of nowhere.

  "Ok, get ready."

  She, being in a panic, didn't notice the speed with which he was ready. It was a very long time before the tiny girl was born, unlike the slightly older child, the newborn had very light colored hair and pale skin.
  The weak mother panted helplessly, "b-boy o-or gi-girl..?" she pleaded

  "It’s a girl." he answered not having to check.

  She smiled tiredly "R-Ruby..." she let out a few shaky breaths, leaned her head back and was gone.

  seeing that she was dead acronza focused his attention on the new ruby, concentrating he focused a mysterious power to look into her DNA, to his discovery he found that the chemical that the mother had spilled all over her was bonding with her DNA, "so that’s where she gets the transforming abilities but it’s still too premature for it to set in and affect her now to set things in order." said acronza to himself.

  After setting the baby down in the mothers arms and making it seem like she delivered the child alone acronza called out into the facility for help, when he started to hear footsteps coming his way acronza decided that it was time to leave.

  "Dialga, bring me back!" acronza called through time and vanished just as the staff where coming around the corner.

 

  Back in the present acronza reappeared in the same spot that he had left at, to ruby it had seemed like acronza had vanished then reappeared within a second.

  "Thank you Dialga, you may return to your dimension now."

  With a roar Dialga left through the hole in time with a flash sealing it back up.

  As time un-paused Ruby was crying again, frightened by Daigle’s roaring and Acronza's sudden vanishing.

  "It ok ruby, everything will be alright." comforted acronza.

  Looking at her he saw that the trainer was right, at birth Ruby was clearly albino, but now her hair appeared light brown-ish and her skin tan as well. She clung to him and cried for another minute before calming down.

  "Ruby, have you changed your appearance as a human before now?"
She spent a moment thinking about the meaning of what he asked, "No, I can't make me look different."
  He curiously put a hand in her hair, it was grimy and dirty.

  "Mm, Blastoise, come out and give our guest a royal shower!"
  Blastoise popped out of its ball and showered both in a torrent of cool water

  "Good, job."

Acronza looked at the now clean ruby; her hair was as white as an Abomasnow, her skin nearly as pale. She hopped down and changed into a Sableye, shaking the water off her.

  "When was the last time you had a bath?" asked acronza.

  She looked up and changed back "a what?"

  "What Blastoise just gave you."

  "Oh uhhhh..." she closed her eyes and groaned for a moment "I don't remember."

  "Mmm, just exactly how old are you?"
  "u-uhhh..." she turned into a Vulpix and poked at her tails for a moment, changing back she held up five fingers "this many."

  "ok." acronza thought the information over and found that there was one piece missing in the puzzle.

  "Do you know who your father is?" he asked expecting the answer before the answered.

  "What's that?" she asked, looking at him curiously.

  Seeing that he would get no sure answer from ruby’s end he decided that it was time to go on another quest, acronza was known locally on going in mysterious quests, often going for years, but always returning wiser than the average man.

  "Come with me." said acronza.

  She smiled "okay!" she followed him without a worry in the world.

  Inside acronza gathered his belongings, including the mysterious flute.

  "Come; let’s go put this puzzle together."

Ruby followed her friend, holding onto his hand all the way, she had never been able to say his name quite right, she could only manage to call him "Acorn."
